Significants

My life consists of going to school every day and getting breaks every weekend. What make it significant is the people I meet every day. In the morning before school I talk to friends on the bus and on the stairs. I have a lot of friends in my classes so I can see them then. When it comes to the weekend, I can always have someone come over to hangout. I get to see my friends all of the time. Sometimes though when I don’t have school, my family and I go to see more family. When no one comes over or I don’t go anywhere, I just watch T.V. It’s so boring when I’m not doing anything. The next day I just get back to my normal life though.

Avatar

James Cameron's "Avatar" may have been a little too real for some fans who say they have experienced depression and suicidal thoughts after seeing the film because they long to enjoy the beauty of the alien world Pandora. A fan forum site has received more than 1,000 posts from people experiencing depression and fans trying to help them cope. The topic became so popular last month that forum administrator Philippe Baghdassarian had to create a second thread so people could continue to post their confused feelings about the movie.

MCE

Mauritis Cornelis Escher or M.C. Escher for short was born on January 27, 1898 in Leeawarden, in the Netherlands. He died on March 27, 1977. M.C. Escher was a graphic artist who worked on posters, stamps, and other ads. Occasionally he would make a painting with paint but most of the time he used a pencil, a ruler for straight lines, and charcoal.
M.C. Escher worked on kind of a mix between Op Art and Realism. Op Art is also known as Optical Art and that relates to the term optical illusion because many of M.C. Escher’s drawings were optical illusions. Realism refers to the general attempt to depict subjects.
I think that M.C. Escher’s work is inspiring. It tries to challenge the mind of the viewer with the black and white optical illusions and oddities. When I studied the artists through time, I was surprised to see that we never learned about M.C. Escher.
One of Escher’s hobbies was making spheres out of pieces of beach wood. With all of the detail you see in his drawings, the average time for him to make a good detailed picture is about a month. Escher’s nickname through school was Mauk. In his early years, he went to Primary school and Secondary school for 15 years. After that, he attended a school for architecture and then he finally found the school he was looking for. He joined a school that teaches decorative arts and there he became friends with his teacher and gained a great amount of knowledge of drawing.

This is my favorite M.C.E. quote:
“I would sometimes hear painters say that they paint "for themselves": but I think they would soon have painted their fill if they lived on a desert island. The primary purpose of all art forms, whether it’s music, literature, or the visual arts, is to say something to the outside world; in other words, to make a personal thought, a striking idea, an inner emotion perceptible to other people’s senses in such a way that there is no uncertainty about the maker's intentions.”

Touching Spirit Bear

Can you imagine a world were no one person cared about you? I know I can’t, but Cole Mathews can. Until a parole officer named Garvey came along, that’s how it was. The book Touching Spirit Bear is and epic thrill ride that takes you though the life of Cole Mathews. This book follows a hardcore juvenile delinquent who changed himself into another good person in this world.
I definitely think that the At,oow is a big symbol in Touch Spirit Bear. It represents pure trust from one person to another. It showed the trust between Garvey’s family and Garvey, then from Garvey to Cole and from Cole to Peter. The totem pole is important too. A totem tells the story of its creator’s life. Instead of his life though, Cole just carved what animal he saw first that day. The totem is important because in the Cole and Peter started to work on a circle in Cole’s empty spot on the totem. Together they worked and they grew a small friendship; maybe not big but it was better than a year and a half a go when Cole only wanted to smash Peter. The circle started at birth and ended at death. In between birth and death was for Cole to decide. It could be friendship, trust, love, life.
I think that Touching Spirit Bear is a comedy. In the beginning of Cole’s journey everything is like it’s always been; Cole beating up other kids and robbing stores. The conflict arises when another kid in his school confesses to what he knows about a robbery Cole participated in. Before Cole was caught he had to have revenge on the kid who was going to put him in jail again. After the beating of a life time on the kid who snitched on Cole, Cole was caught and sentenced to one year on an island just off of the coast of Alaska. Cole finally realizes the conflict when half of his bones were broken from a bear attach. That’s when he realized that he was just as weak as Peter. He was just as powerful as Peter. He was no different than anyone else. He was taken to a hospital and kept there for the next six months. The resolution is when Peter’s parents send Peter to the island to stay with Cole after Cole is sent back to the island. At first Peter tried to ignore Cole and just stay out of his way. Cole just continued his daily life. A couple weeks later though, Peter and Cole started to talk. Eventually they started to work together and everything between Cole and Peter started to resolved. It returned to normal when Cole stopped hating Peter and Peter didn’t feel as if in danger anymore.
There are many lessons in this book but I think that the main lesson learned in the story is to forgive and forget. The sooner everyone knows that the better. Everyone knew what happened that day on the sidewalk. Peter’s face did get smashed in by Cole , but after spending A couple of months on the island with Cole, Peter realized that it wasn’t his fault Cole hurt him; it was Cole’s father who hit Cole. It wasn’t Cole’s fathers fault that he hit Cole it was Cole’s grandfather, and the list goes on and on.
I can’t imagine what Cole has been through but I know he’s been through a lot. Cole is now just another person in our American society along with peter. The island really changed him. The Circle Justice isn’t such a bad idea.

spirit bear reaserch

One night I decided to look up spirit bear on Google images because Google always has everything. When I went on to the Wikipedia link. It came up as this bear named the Kermode Bear. I read on and found out that it was also known as the Spirit Bear because of its ghostly like white fur. The Kermode Bear lives in and near British Columbia, Canada. This is also where the story takes place.

Touching Spirit Bear #1

Touching Spirit Bear is an awesome book so far. When we had to choose a book out of the four, I have no regret what so ever about choosing this book. I think why I understand it so well though is because my family is into adoption and fostering. We are currently fostering a 9 year old boy who was in Cole’s place. He does have anger issues because of it. There is a good side to it; we are trying to help him and it’s working a little bit every day.
Okay, I’m off topic. Back to Spirit Bear. I think that the part in the book where he sees spirit bear is kind of creepy. If I was just sitting on the ground in the in the middle of the night and I saw a giant white ghost bear eying me from a quarter mile a way, I wouldn’t care how bad my legs hurt, I’d run for my life.
I’ll be back soon to write more after I read more.

UP!

3. In the beginning of this movie, Carl was a cranky old man. When Carl meets Russel, it starts to change his ways. When Russel is stuck with Carl he starts to rely on Carl to take care of him and his new friends. His new friends Doug and Kevin rely on Carl to. Carl knows that they

2. The movie Up is a romance. In the beginning of it the conflict arises when Carl hits the construction man and is forced out of his home. Just after the Shady Oaks guys come to his house to pick him up, Carl sets flight. He soon discovers that Russel has ventured his way onto Carl’s porch. Carl is stuck with Russel now but learns to deal with it. On their adventure through Paradise Falls everything works out perfectly. Even after they get back home, things are perfect. Cars house lands on the next to the falls and Carl becomes a father figure to Russel.

4. One of the symbols in the movie was the house. It stood for a promise that Carl made as a child. He crossed his heart that he would get their house onto Paradise Falls. It also held many memories of Carl and Elle’s relationship from the start.
Another symbol or symbols in the movie are the two chairs that Carl and Elle sat on all of the time. They represent the length of their relationship. The chairs were never moved. They always stayed in the same spot. When Russel decides to fly away with a leaf blower and the house is stuck to the ground, Carl gets the idea to get rid of all of the weight in the house. In that scene he starts to lift off of the ground and he goes a fter Russel, but the two chairs that he now through out of his house are still next to each other and they will stay that way forever.

Papas Parrot

Harry is a simple boy who loves his dad, Mr. Tillian. Harry brings his friends to his dads candy shop every day after school. As Harry gets older he start to be embarrassed by his dad like any other growing kid. In this comedy of “Papas Parrot” Harry is jealous boy, but he does learn a lesson
In the first place Harry is just another boy. He is growing up fast and is starting to be embarrassed by his dad. All of his friends know where Mr. Tillian works too so that doesn’t make anything better. When Harry turns twelve ,that’s when Mr. Tillian buys a parrot. Now that Mr. Tillian has a parrot and he loves it, that kind of kicks Harry out of the picture. I think that Harry is now jealous of the parrot and he’s hiding that jealousy by ignoring his dad even more.
Secondly I think that “Papas Parrot” is a comedy. Life is normal and Harry loves his dad until he starts getting older and more mature. He starts to ignore his dad so Mr. Tillian buys a parrot for company. When Harry’s dad starts to ignores him back Harry realizes the conflict. I don’t think Harry minds because he doesn’t go to his fathers store anymore. The conflict is resolved when Mr. Tillian has a heart attack but survives. Harry was willing to look after the store and his parrot until Mr. Tillian returns.
Further more the lesson learned in the story is that kids will grow up. I think that the author or one of her kids was like Harry. But it wasn’t just her or her kid, it’s all of us. At one point or another, friends matter more than family, but no matter what they’re still family so you better get used to it.
Harry is jealous of the parrot. In the end though Harry learns his lesson. Some times parents get in the way but if one of them get hurt I would be willing to help.

Hudson Miracle

“C’mon mom. Do I have to go to grandmas?” “Yes now quit being so down. You only see her once a year” “But, but you no how much I hate flying. They crash like all the time.” “I don’t care and you’re going and that’s that!”
I hate going to grandmas. I can’t go anywhere because I’m too young so all I do is sit in her tiny apartment and listen to my iPod all night. And all she ever does is work so we don’t go out much. When we do we just go to Toys ‘r‘ Us or some kind of store. Others might see that as fun but I’ve been their thousands of times.
I decided to go upstairs and start packing since I had no choice. I packed up and I was ready for tomorrow. I took a shower and went to bed. In the morning I got up and sighed.
“Let’s go! Get up. It’s already 9:00. Yer gonna miss your flight.” My mom yelled.
“Kay okay” I said.
I brushed my teeth and got dressed as fast as I could. Me and my mom jumped into the mini van and zoomed out of the driveway. We were racing down the free way. I thought we were gonna be pulled over. When we arrived at the air port my mom found the closest possible parking spot. We grabbed our bags and ran inside. We found our gate and just made it. They were just closing the gate.
“It’s gonna be a 45 minute flight. Right now in New York it’s sunny with a high of 69 degrees” said the pilot.
“At least it will be sunny” my mom said trying to bring my spirits up. I decided not to comment.
45 minutes later we were let off at LaGuardia International. We headed down to baggage claim and that’s where we found grandma. I said hi and gave her a hug but I was trying to stay mad. We got into grandmas Lexus and went to her apartment on the Upper East Side. Her apartment is right across the street from Central Park but I had never been able to go there because grandma was working on her computer. Now that my mom came though that will change.
The first day we were there we just stayed in the room. Boring. The other days though were fun. I got to go to all of the places I wasn’t able to before. My mom took me to Time Square, 30 Rockefeller, and a bunch of other places. The week went by really fast and before I knew it, it was over. On Saturday I got up and said goodbye to New York. My grandma took my mom and me to LaGuardia International and said goodbye. We all hugged.
My mom and I got on the plane and sat down. I was looking out the window of the plane and i swear I thought i saw feathers come out the back of the jet engine on the wing I ignored it. I felt sleepy so I decided to go to sleep. When i just got to sleep I heard the pilot’s voice.
“Please fasten your seatbelts! Flight attendants return to your seats and buckle up”
All of a sudden I feel a great falling feeling. I feel like I’m on a flying rollercoaster. All i can really hear is screaming. CRASH. I’m thrown forward into the seat in front of me. I think I’m either dead or passed out. It’s kind of hard to tell at this point. I woke up a couple of seconds later in reality so I knew I wasn’t dead yet. I’m shoved into a huge line/ pile of people trying to get out.
I finally get out and i slip and my arm gets soaked. Now I’m awake. We’re in the Hudson River! Within seconds there are rescue boats, NYPD, FDNY, and tons of news people. They put us on the rescue boats and we were taken to the hospital. I was one of the ones to actually stay in the hospital. I got a concussion from the crash. My mom turned on NY1 and we started watching.
“Tonight’s top headlights, Crash in the Hudson. Amazingly no deaths; only minor injuries…”

The Third Level

“The Third Level” is an epic adventure through time. It starts in modern time It’s just another day in New York City. Charly was on his way home from the office. He had no idea that he was about to discover a world lost in the time stream of our history.
Charlie is the main character in this romance. He is a business man who just want to get home. Charlie is on his way home and he decides to go to Grand Central Station because it is fastest. Charly’s friend Sam is also his physiatrist.
“The Third Level” is a romance. In the story the mild conflict is finding his way home from the past. Charly is the one who’s been through the station a million times but still gets lost. Near the end Charly’s physiatrist Sam converts eight hundred dollars into 1800’s money. Sam goes into the third level and stays. Charly finds his way back bust does not plan to stay like Sam.
After reading the story I knew what the lesson was. It was if you get lost you will find your way back if you try. Sam did not get lost he just did not want to leave. Charly on the other hand just wanted to get back home.
Did Charly decide to go back to back to the old times? This story was extremely confusing. At first I did not get it but after reading it a second time I understood. “The Third Level” a story in time and is a nice fantasy to think about. What would living on Manhattan in the 1800’s be like?

Ribbons

By: Laurence Yep

Stacy is just a simple young girl who likes ballet. When Paw Paw (Stacy’s grandmother) comes to town every thing changes from there. When Stacy’s little brother Ean saw Paw Paw come up the walkway he went nuts. When she came in the first thing Stacy noticed was Paw Paw’s feet. They were wrapped up in cloth and looked all bent. In this comedy Paw Paw is a mean grouchy woman who totally despises ballet shoes because of her terrible past.
“Ribbons” is a comedy. The story starts normal with Stacy, her parents, and her brother Ean. The conflict arises when Paw Paw comes to town to move in. Stacy realizes that Paw Paw is being extremely unfair. One day Stacy wanted help tying her ribbons to her ballet shoes. She knew Paw Paw used to do this a lot so she went to Paw Paw for help. Paw Paw saw the ribbons and fiercely attacked Stacy for the ribbons. Stacy Realizes conflict. Paw Paw was acting crazy just to get the shoes away. Stacy’s mom comes in and agrees with her mom to take them. The resolution is when Stacy talks to her grandmother and Paw Paw tells her about a different way she used to use them. Her feet are twisted and turned now because of that. It finally returns to normalcy when Stacy gets her shoes back.
“Ribbons” relates to my life in many ways. Just a couple days ago my social studies class had a substitute. She was mean just like Paw Paw in “Ribbons”. And like Stacy we were minding our business and doing our work and she still found something wrong in what we were doing. The part of that class period that most relates to “Ribbons” Is when a Class mate asked a question about our work and the sub snapped back and almost yelled telling him to get back to work. But unlike “Ribbons” she was gone the next day and it was back to our normal teacher.
I think that Stacy is an innocent little girl. Stacy wasn’t the one doing bad in this story to make Paw Paw go crazy. She had no control over the decision of Paw Paw living with her.I think that Stacy’s parent should help Paw Paw get started in a new apartment. They should do that so Stacy can get her room back and her favorite hobby back.
Paw Paw’s past left her feet to practically rot and she does not want that to happen to Stacy. Paw Paw is good by not trying to warn Stacy but I don’t think that she had to attack Stacy to tell her. Stacy now understands Paw Paw and Paw Paw understand Stacy. In the end Stacy and Paw Paw hug and make up.

Got The Diamonds

It was just another Sunday in a new town we just moved to. It went by the name of North Creek right next to D.C. My dad Jerry, my mom Sharron, and me were on our way to church. On our way down Pear St. my clumsy dad was trying to call his new boss from his new job at the CIA on his cell phone. Then I saw a big black SUV coming toward us head first. The last thing I herd was the tires screeching. I guess North Creek just wasn’t our town.
My name is Danny Turnerman. I woke up in the North Creek hospital. There was yelling and talking. ”Te boy’s awake. He’s awake!” They gave me a pill and told me to go back to sleep. Once again I woke up and there was my Uncle Fred sitting in a chair next to the hospital bed. He saw me open my eyes and said “Hello” in a soft gentle voice.
“The doctors said you wouldn’t wake up. They said you were in A Coma. Watch your leg though” he said.
“A Coma .Really! Ow, Owch My leg.
“Told ya”
“Wait, are my parents okay! Can I see them” I said.
The doctor walks in.
“Oh my god. It’s a miracle.”
Me and the doctor talk for a couple of minutes until the doctor thought I ready to meet my parents. He lets them in. They talk with me for a while and Danny says good bye to his parents as they leave to go home since they’re in good enough condition. Danny is told that they will come first thing in the morning to come pick him up.
The next day I’m taken away with my parents and my crutches. We went for lunch and ice cream and went home. My dad said he had paperwork to do so he went up stairs. And for me, I had nothing better to do than watch TV. Luckily we have a TIVO so I do not miss one episode of Family Guy. I sat there until my mom made me go to bed. My mom helped me up the stairs to my room and I had it from there.
I was walking down the hall when I herd talking. It was coming from my parent’s bedroom. I peaked into my room. There was my dad talking on the phone.
“Look John, I think the government is on to us. They’re the ones who ran into my car. Anyways if we do get caught what will happen to my family.
The other person speaks but I can’t hear him.
“I don’t care if your wife left you for this, just bring the bomb!”
My dad slams the phone down. He looks over and sees me. He grabs me and puts me on the ground. I try to refuse. He shoves one of those pills from the hospital in my mouth and I fall asleep.
The next morning I wake up and my dad was gone.
“Where’s dad” I ask my mom.
“I think he said something about going to the Smithsonian for some diamond exhibit. He supposed to guard it today. Maybe we can go down later.”
“Ok, but first I need to tell you about the craziest dream I had last night.”
The very next moment my dad and another man come rushing in the house with a big black bag. He grabs me and puts a gun to my back making me drop my crutches. There are S.W.A.T.’s everywhere.
“You’re surrounded. There’s no use in the child. Hand him over” says a man with microphone in one hand and a pistol in the other.
“NO” yells my dad.
Even if he did let go I couldn’t go anywhere because of my broken leg from the crash.
My dad starts to slowly back up taking baby steps back into the house. When he is about three feet from the door he threw me down on the ground. Not even one step into his running plan he was shot in the leg as a way to stop him without killing him. He was going to a high security prison right after his leg surgery.

One week later

“Finally the bomb is finished. Now to owe my friend an apology and some diamonds” said John to himself.
John got in his car with the light sensing bomb. He knew he could not go inside the prison so did the classic bomb in the box. He mailed it into the prison. The box was sent into the small mail room ready to be looked at before handed to the prisoners. The mail room was a probably the size of a wide hallway and the strong doors are closed on each side. When the guards opened the box… KABOOM. All of the guards in the mail room and in the hall next to it were dead.
All of the rest of the guards were drawn to it to see what happened. One of the guards trying to finish his donut came running out of the maintenance room just so happened to run into John. John knocked him out and took his keys. Now John had the chance to walk into the maintenance room. Without a breath he pulled down the lever that opened up the cell doors.
John walked outside calmly and waited for the prisoners to start coming out. He could hear the guards yelling and screaming and being beat up. Within ten minutes John met up with Jerry. They got in Johns car and drove away.
On the road going for the Canadian border John pulled a big black bag out from behind his seat. While watching the road John handed the bag to Jerry. Jerry looked inside. A bunch of sparkles were coming out of the bag. They both started yelling in happiness.
